Divan bed wholesale UK: buying storage divans from a Turkish factory

Divan bed wholesale for UK retailers from a Turkish factory: how baza sizes map to UK beds, who tests for the 1988 fire rules, duty and origin, and what to ask.

Divan bed wholesale for the UK from Turkey works best for UK retailers who sell storage divans and ottoman beds and are ready to act as the importer. A Turkish factory can supply upholstered storage bases with matching headboards, but the UK buyer has to settle three things first: which base sizes fit UK mattresses, who holds the fire safety testing duty, and how the goods qualify for preferential duty.

This guide is written by ellda mobilya, a furniture manufacturer in Kayseri, Türkiye, producing sofa sets, corner sofas, bed base sets and mattresses since 2010. If you are new to the Turkish word for a divan, read our guide to the Turkish bed base (baza) first. This one is only about the UK.

Why UK retailers look at Turkish divans

A UK storage divan and a Turkish baza are close relatives. Both are upholstered box bases that carry a mattress, and both are often sold with a lift-up top for storage. In Türkiye the gas-lift version is called amortisörlü baza, which UK buyers know as an ottoman divan.

The UK search results for divan suppliers are mostly British manufacturers. A Turkish factory is an alternative source rather than a like-for-like replacement. What it can offer is a different design language, mainly in headboards: quilted chesterfield, vertical channels, curved and winged shapes, often in velvet or bouclé. What it cannot offer is a UK factory's short replenishment cycle, so a Turkish range suits planned buying better than top-up orders.

Do Turkish base sizes fit UK beds?

This is the first check, and it rules some models in and others out. UK retailers usually sell mattresses in the customary UK sizes, while our bases follow Turkish sizes in centimetres.

Customary UK size (as most UK retailers list it)Typical mattress sizeClosest ellda base sizeFit
Single90 × 190 cm90 × 200 cmSame width, 10 cm longer
Double135 × 190 cmNone in the catalogueAsk per model
King150 × 200 cm160 × 200 cm10 cm wider
Super king180 × 200 cm180 × 200 cmMatches

Check the UK sizes against the mattresses you actually sell; some brands use their own sizing. The practical reading of the table is simple. Of the 29 sets in our 2025 bedding catalogue, 21 take a 180 × 200 cm mattress, so most of the range lines up with the UK super king. The 160 × 200 cm and 90 × 200 cm bases need either a matching mattress from the same order or a base made to the UK size. Whether a model can be made to 150 × 200 cm or 135 × 190 cm is a question for the enquiry, answered per model in the quote.

Headboard width matters as much as the base. At 180 × 200 cm, the Erciyes headboard is 180 cm wide, the Mini Kare is 200 cm and the Nova is 240 cm. Many UK bedrooms are smaller than the rooms these sets are photographed in, so shortlist by headboard width as well as by style. All figures are catalogue dimensions; confirm them in the quote.

UK divan formats compared with Turkish bases

UK buyers describe divans by their storage format. Turkish catalogues describe them by the headboard. Map one to the other before you send a list:

  • Ottoman (gas-lift) divan. The closest Turkish product is the amortisörlü baza. In our catalogue photos, Erciyes, Nova, Mini Kare and the four single models are among the sets shown with a gas-lift base. Ask which end the top opens from, because UK customers may expect a foot-end or side lift.
  • Drawer divan. Turkish bases are usually built for top-opening storage, not drawers. If your range needs two or four drawers, ask whether any model can be made that way before you plan around it.
  • Non-storage divan. A plain base without storage is a simpler product; ask whether a model is available without the storage box.
  • Headboard sold separately. In the UK the headboard is often a separate line on the price list. A Turkish baza set is normally the base and its headboard together, so ask for both prices if you want to sell them apart.

UK fire safety: who has to do what

The Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations 1988 apply to upholstered furniture for private use, and Trading Standards guidance names beds, divans and mattresses within scope (Business Companion, last reviewed October 2025). Three points matter to an importer of divans:

  1. The testing duty sits with the importer. The same guidance says the responsibility rests with the first supplier in the UK, which is either the manufacturer or the importer. A retailer that imports directly is that first supplier.
  2. Divans follow a separate standard. The permanent fire label is not required on mattresses, divans and bed bases, which are covered separately in BS 7177. Covers and fillings still matter, so the fabric and the foam choice belong in the same conversation.
  3. The rules have changed and may change again. An amendment in force since 30 October 2025 removed the display label for new products and extended the time limit for prosecutions from 6 to 12 months (gov.uk). A further reform built on a smoulder test was consulted on from 31 March to 23 June 2026 (gov.uk consultation). As of 20 October 2026 the government had not published its response, so the 1988 Regulations as amended in 2025 still apply.

What this means in practice: state in your enquiry that the divans are for UK retail, name the fabrics you want, and ask what test evidence the factory can supply for that model and fabric. We confirm what we can provide per order in the quote; we do not assume UK compliance for a model by default.

Duty, origin and paperwork

The UK and Türkiye trade under their own agreement, not the EU customs union. Goods from Türkiye get preferential duty only if they meet the agreement's rules of origin, and origin is proved with an origin declaration on the invoice or another commercial document (gov.uk). The A.TR movement certificate used for EU imports is not the document for the UK.

The UK Global Tariff lists mattress supports under commodity 9404100000 at 2%, with a 0% preferential rate for Türkiye (UK Trade Tariff, checked 20 October 2026). An upholstered storage base may be classified there or under a furniture heading, depending on how it is made, so confirm the code with your customs broker. Import VAT is due either way. You also need a GB EORI number to import.

How ellda handles UK bed base orders

We make every bed base set in our 10,500 m² factory in Kayseri Organized Industrial Zone. Bases and headboards are prepared, upholstered and checked for dimensions, stitching, surfaces and mechanisms before export packing; you can follow the steps on our production page. Bed bases, mattresses and seating can travel together, which helps fill a container; our guide to mixed container furniture explains the planning.

Price, minimum quantities, lead time and delivery terms depend on the models, sizes, fabrics and destination, so they are stated in the quote rather than in a price list. Our team works in English, and UK buyers can visit the factory by appointment.

Next step

Shortlist bed base sets that match your UK sizes and room widths, then send the list with the checklist above through our wholesale page. For the wider import process, read importing furniture from Turkey.

Frequently asked questions

01Do Turkish bed base sizes fit UK mattresses?

Only some of them. A 180 × 200 cm base matches the size most UK retailers sell as super king, while 160 × 200 cm and 90 × 200 cm do not match the customary UK king and single. Ask in the enquiry whether the model can be made to the UK size you sell.

02Who is responsible for UK fire safety testing on imported divans?

Under the 1988 Regulations the testing duty rests with the first supplier in the UK, which for imported goods is the importer. Retailers that import directly take on that duty, so state the UK market in the enquiry and agree in the quote what evidence the factory supplies.

03Do divans need the permanent fire label in the UK?

No. Trading Standards guidance says the permanent label is not required on mattresses, divans and bed bases, which are covered separately in BS 7177. The divans still have to meet the Regulations.

04Is there import duty on bed bases from Türkiye?

The UK Global Tariff on mattress supports (9404.10) is 2%, and the UK–Türkiye trade agreement gives 0% to goods that meet its rules of origin, with an origin declaration on the invoice. Import VAT still applies. Confirm the code and rate with your customs broker, as of October 2026.

05Can I order divans and sofas in the same container?

Yes. ellda can combine bed base sets, mattresses, sofa sets and corner sofas in one shipment, and the loading plan is shared with the quote.
